PROJECT OVERVIEW
Nicole, an event planner and interior designer, needed a site to share additional work with clients who want to see more of her style. This site gives a closer look at her past projects and helps potential clients better understand her design approach.
THE GOAL
-
Design a minimalist, clean, and neutral website that reflects Nicole’s style.
-
Showcase all of Nicole’s projects, including work from previous companies.
-
Create distinct sections for Event Planning and Interior Design services to accommodate clients who have different needs.
CONDUCTING USER INTERVIEWS
I conducted interviews with individuals who had previously used or were considering using interior design or event planning services. The goal was to understand their decision making process, expectations, and what they value most in a professional's website.

From the insights gathered, I created two personas: Henter and Ellie.

WHAT DID WE LEARN
From our user interviews, I identified key insights about how people manage stress and process emotions:

1. Clients want to see real work

People want to see actual projects, not just styled shots, to understand Nicole’s style and quality.

2. Before-and-after visuals make a big difference
Transformations help clients see the designer’s true impact, which builds trust.

3. Style match is key
Clients are looking for a designer or planner whose vibe aligns with theirs.
How might we display more of Nicole's past work so clients can easily understand her style and see if it matches what they're looking for?
How might we showcase Nicole's space transformations with more before-and-after visuals to highlight her skills?
CRAFTING THE SOLUTION
To meet both Nicole’s goals and potential users’ needs, I designed a clean, minimal website with two main sections - Event Planning and Interior Design. Each project includes clear photos and before and after images to show Nicole’s work. I also added filters for easy browsing and reduced the number of projects per page to improve visibility. The site is easy to navigate and helps clients quickly understand Nicole’s style and experience.
USER FLOW
I kept the user flow simple to make browsing easy. On the home page, users see 4 featured images - 2 from Event Planning and 2 from Interior Design. Clicking any image takes them to the full project details. Users can also use the top menu to explore all Event Planning or Interior Design projects, which brings them to dedicated pages for each category. These pages include project details along with before and after photos.

DEVELOPING LOW-FIDELITY WIREFRAMES
To start the design process, I created low-fidelity wireframes to map out the layout and structure of each page. This helped me plan the user flow and make sure the site was easy to navigate before adding visuals. I focused on organizing content clearly, separating Event Planning and Interior Design sections, and including space for project photos and filters.

EARLY TESTING
I tested my low-fidelity wireframes with 5 users who had experience with interior design or event planning services. All users found the navigation simple and completed the tasks with ease. They liked the clean and sleek layout.
KEY FEEDBACK
-
Darken the grey tone so it doesn’t blend in with the white header/footer
-
Make the project images larger so users don’t need to expand them
HIGH FIDELITY WIREFRAMES
After applying feedback from my low-fidelity testing, I designed high-fidelity wireframes with a clean, minimal style to match Nicole’s brand. I adjusted the grey tones for better contrast, enlarged the project images for easier viewing, and added clearer labels like “Theme” to improve clarity. These updates helped create a polished design that’s both easy to navigate and visually appealing.

USER TESTING
In the second round of testing, all participants completed the tasks and all success metrics were met. They found the navigation clear and liked the filter option. One participant suggested displaying five projects per page instead of six.

All success metrics were met:
-
The average amount of time for users to complete each task to be under a minute
-
Low error rate
-
An average rating of 4 out of 5, with 5 being the easiest, for both task flows
For the home page, my mentor suggested switching from the current swipeable layout for the 4 projects to a vertical photo display. This change aims to improve usability and provide a clearer view of each project at a glance.

REFLECTION
This project was a great learning experience, especially since it was my first time working with an outside client. It gave me a real sense of what it's like to balance client needs with user needs, and I really enjoyed the challenge. I also had the chance to actually build the website, which helped me understand how design decisions translate into a live product. The feedback I received helped me refine the design and think more critically about usability. Overall, it was rewarding to see my design come together, and I’m excited to apply what I learned to future projects.
